THE TRAJECTORY OF AN IDOL
Born in September 28th in Colatina, Espírito Santo, Brazil.
Anderson Varejão started in basketball by playing with his father and siblings. The family already breathed basketball. Sandro Varejão, brother (11 years older), was a great player and, therefore, the biggest influence.
At the age 11 he started taking the sport more seriously.
The first team he played for was Saldanha da Gama, in Vitória (ES).
Afterwards he went to Franca, in São Paulo, to play in the youth teams alongside his other brother Ângelo.
In the youth team he won many championships and when he became a professional he was the Revelation Athlete of his first championship and the best player in his second one.
At 19 years old, his dream of being drafted to the Brazilian Team came true, making possible for him to play with his older brother Sandro.
Soon after he was hired to play for Barcelona, where he stayed for two seasons and a half and was Spanish and European champion.
Took part in NBA's athlete drafting process.
In such occasion, he was drafted to play for Orlando Magic. However in an exchange between teams, he ended up in Cleveland Cavaliers.
He stayed in Cleveland for 12 years, charming the fans and becoming a local idol, becoming the protagonist at the Wig Night, in which all the fans got a wing mimicking Anderson's hair, which got him an Guinness Book appearance (more than 20 thousand people wearing wigs). There he was also the first Brazilian to play in the NBA finals (2007).
